Michael Felger, of the Boston Herald, reports for the Sporting News that the New England Patriots would like to see recently signed RB Mike Cloud become a factor this year. However, he'll have to sit out the first four games of the year for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. His quickness and good hands could make him a factor in the passing game, but he's unlikely the running force the Patriots need.

Steelers.com reports that former NFL LB Fred Small was killed Sunday, June 23, in the line of police duty in Inglewood, California. Small, 39, passed away from a result of injuries sustained in a traffic collision. Small was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the ninth round in 1985 and played one season with the team. He was later traded to the San Francisco 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons. Small ended his football career in 1989, and was a five-year veteran of the Inglewood Police Department.
